Why Hero House

“I want to create the type of environment I wish I had when I was a college student in early recovery”
-Randy Haveson

Most college students completing a treatment program need additional support. While there are many long-term treatment facilities available, very few allow students to continue their education as part of their recovery process. The HERO House is specifically designed for college students who have completed an inpatient or intensive outpatient treatment program, but are not ready to return to their primary college environment.

About the Founder

Founder and Director Randy Haveson has been working as a counselor and university administrator since 1987. He has an M.A. in counseling and extensive experience working as a therapist in treatment centers, private practices, and agencies, primarily in the field of addiction. Randy has also served as a drug and alcohol counselor and coordinated substance abuse education programs on three college campuses around the country, receiving national recognition for his work with students and administrators. Today, Randy is a full-time professional speaker, traveling across the country to educate college students about alcohol and other drug use and abuse, as well as topics related to leadership and self-esteem. Randy has been in recovery from his own addiction since May of 1984.

Mission Statement

The HERO House is a free-standing recovery residence that addresses the specific needs of the college student in early sobriety.

To provide a safe, supportive, and substance free environment for students in recovery who wish to maintain long term sobriety, continue their education, and learn the skills necessary to be positive and productive members of society.

Some students who finish a traditional inpatient treatment program need additional long term treatment to solidify and maintain their sobriety. Some are ready to return to their original college after treatment. And then there are those who fall in between these options. That’s where HERO House comes into play. The main purpose behind HERO House is to create a safe and supportive environment for college students who have completed treatment, are not quite ready to return to their original campus, but have a desire to maintain their sobriety and continue their education.

Parent Testimonial

"Our son recently visited home after nearly three months at the Hero House. We wanted to thank you for your help in transforming him into an honest, open and loving person. Even after re-hab he was still angry and could easily have picked up where he had left off with drugs. Your facility kept him out of harms way and introduced structure into his life and that, combined with the 12 Step process of A.A.( which you insist on as requisite to being a resident at Hero House), has given us our son back. I cannot thank you enough for your help."
